Kenneth F. Emery, 69 of rural Vernon Center, died Saturday, September 6, 2003 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Funeral service 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church, Vernon Center, with Rev. Wanda Kothlow officiating. Private family graveside services at Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and one hour before services at church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donors choice.
Mr. Emery was born September 30, 1933 in Winnebago to Henry Elmer and Mattie Mildred (Jacobe) Emery. He attended school at Winnebago and graduated from Amboy High School. He helped start the high school football program while he was in high school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. He was united in marriage to Opal Mae Miller on February 20, 1955 in Vernon Center. Kenneth farmed all of his life. He also drove truck for Stokley Van Camp, Winnebago, milk route for the creamery in Amboy and hauled gravel. Blew snow for the City of Vernon Center and many neighbors. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Amboy Lions Club, Vernon Center Township Board and was a life member of North American Hunting Club. He enjoyed hunting, spending time with his grandchildren and watching football.
He is survived by his wife, Opal Mae of Vernon Center; a son and his wife, Glen and Amy Emery of Lake Crystal; a daughter and her husband, Zelta and Scott Gens of Vernon Center; eight grandchildren; many nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Feodor; son, Ray; infant grandson, Alex Gens; seven sisters and three brothers.
