Mankato, MN " Sister M. Denise Coleman, School Sister of Notre Dame, 96, died, Thursday, July 16, 2003, at Good Counsel Convent, Mankato.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 21 at Good Counsel Chapel, with Fr. Karl Voelker, SJ, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Good Counsel Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Good Counsel, with Vespers in the chapel at 7 p.m. Visitation is also one hour prior to the funeral on Monday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge.

Sister M. Denise (Marie Coleman) was born February 10, 1907, in Marathon, Iowa to John and Myrtle (Caskey) Coleman. She entered the School Sisters of Notre Dame in Mankato in 1928 and took First Vows in 1931. For over 50 years, she taught middle and primary grades in Minnesota and Washington. She taught at SS Peter & Paul in Mankato, and in outlying areas including St. Peter, Wells, and Morgan. Over those years, she earned a B.E. in Education from Mount Mary College, Milwaukee. Following her years of teaching, she spent the next nine years in visiting the elderly and shut-ins. In 1994, she retired to Good Counsel.

She is survived by a sister, Myrtle Cochran, of Mapleton, a brother, James Coleman, of Dallas, TX, by nieces and nephews, and by her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and two brothers.
