Francis John " Frank" Harvey, age 83, of Mankato, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
A Memorial Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m., Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Northview " North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, with a 6 p.m. Prayer Service. Interment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Frank was born on June 2, 1931, in Spangler, PA, to Richard and Mary (Dranchak) Harvey. He attended school in Patton, PA. Frank served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1948 until 1968. He was proud of his military service and that he served as a Hospital Corpsman on the U.S.S. John R. Pierce during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Frank was united in marriage to Marilyn "Molly" Fox on December 2, 1950, in Arlington, VA. Following his retirement from the Navy, Frank and Marilyn moved to North Mankato in July of 1971. He was employed with the Mankato Post Office for 23 years. Frank was a member of VFW Post 950. He enjoyed sports, especially the MN Vikings and Penn State, reading, music, playing solitaire on his computer, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren.
Frank is survived by his wife, Molly of Mankato; five children, Mary (Mark) Jones of Dodge Center, Mark (Janet) Harvey of Owatonna, Sue (Bob) Meyer of North Mankato, Bob (Molly) Harvey of LeSueur, and Chris (special friend, Traci Larson) Harvey of St. Peter; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Dubyak and Isabelle Barone, both of California; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson, Silas; and two brothers, Richard and Bill.
