DeLores Porter, age 85, of Mankato, died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Keystone Communities in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held 11:00a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2014 at Hosanna Lutheran Church with Pastor Dennis Heiden, officiating. A visitation will be from 2:00 " 4:00p.m. on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at the Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before the service at church. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to Hosanna Lutheran Church or to the American Cancer Society.
DeLores grew up in the farm country of south-east Minnesota (Ruthton & Slayton). She met her husband Dick Porter while attending the U of M. They later divorced. After her marriage, she lived for a while in Owatonna before settling in Mankato for the last 52 years. Delores had a strong faith and was active in her churches which were Christ the King and Hosanna Lutheran. She worked for Year Round Cab, Midtex and for Honeymead for 17 years before she retired.
She is survived by her brother, Curt Christensen; daughters, Vicki (Steve) Langemo, Diane (Tom) Roggow and Lynette (Andy) Kelley. In addition there are 6 grandchildren: Alyssa Branitski, Laura Langemo, Kate & Jen Roggow and Dan & Mitch Kelley. Finally, there are two great-grandchildren: Brayden and Avayah Branitski.
She was preceded in death by former husband: Dick Porter, parents: Fred and Merle Christensen, and siblings: Marilyn Staples and Fred Christensen along with a sister that died in infancy.
The family is grateful to the staff of Keystone Assisted Living for the loving care they gave DeLores for the past 5 years. She will live on in the hearts and memory of her family and friends. We all will rejoice in the life she has lived for the past 85 years.
