Mona Mae Friday, age 90, of Mankato died Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Greg Lenz, officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to Resurrection Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Mona was born August 14, 1923 to LeRoy and Mildred (Wirig) Evans in Mankato. She was raised on a farm in rural Cambria and attended grade school at District 10, rural Cambria. Mona stayed with her grandparents to go to high school and graduated from Mankato High School in 1940 and then attended Mankato Commercial College.
During World War II, Mona worked in the Washington, D.C. Congressional office of Rep. Robert C. Crosser of Ohio.
Mona was united in marriage to Wallace "Wally" F. Friday on August 1, 1948 at Centenary United Methodist Church, Mankato. Mona worked for many years for the U.S. Department of Agriculture in their county ASC offices in Mankato and Moorhead, Minnesota and Jefferson, Wisconsin. She also worked in the Wisconsin State ASC office in Madison. Mona and Wally also owned and operated the Hub Caf" in Lake Crystal from 1966-67.
For 10 years she was with the Freeborn County Nursing Service in Albert Lea. Mona and Wally moved back to Mankato in 1978. She was a former member of First Christian Church, now Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mankato.
Mona enjoyed books, music, antiques, history, politics, and especially spending time with her family.
Mona is survived by her son, Mark (Sandy) Friday of Lake Crystal; two grandchildren, Brad (Tessa) Friday and their children: Jacob and Max of Lake Crystal and Jen Friday of Mankato; brother, Henry "Bud" Evans of Mankato; sisters-in-law, Donna Evans of Mankato and Julienne Friday of rural Forest City, IA; and nieces and nephews.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wally on June 7, 2013; parents-in-law, Henry and Gudrun Friday; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dorothy (Donald) Jacques.
Mona will be remembered as a gentle, loving, and caring woman, who will be greatly missed by her family.
