Albert Volk, age 100, died Monday, June 30, 2014 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Northview " North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at Northview " North Mankato Mortuary. In lieu of flowers memorials to Alzheimer's Association or donor's choice.
Albert was born June 10, 1914 to Roy and Winnifred (Westerman) Volk in Mankato. He attended school in North Mankato and Sugar Grove Country School. Albert worked at Mankato Brewery and Kato Engineering. Albert was united in marriage to Lenore A. Sheehan on March 1, 1942 in Minneapolis. They were married 65 years until her death in 2007. Albert served his country in the U.S. Army with the 743rd Tank Battalion from 1942-45. He was stationed in Normandy, France, the Ardennes, and Germany. After the war he returned to Kato Engineering. He retired as foreman of the Tool and Die Department in 1977. He loved to hunt, fish, garden, and for over 45 years spending time at Lake Osakis. Albert was a gunsmith and owned the Madison Lake Gun Club. He made great pies.
Albert is survived by three children, Jim (Chris) Volk of Madison Lake, Janet (Bob) McCullough of Lake Washington, and Tom (Kathy) Volk of Madison Lake; seven grandchildren, Clint (Kim) McCullough, Jared McCullough, Kelly (Dave) Sykora, Jamie (Karl) Wendland, Stacey Volk, Amber Volk, Sara (Ryan) Bennett; eight great-grandchildren, Kyle, Luke, and Matthew McCullough, Rion, Cadin, and Nolan Wendland, Madelyn Bennett, Duke Sykora; numerous nieces and nephews.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lenore in 2007; sister, Minnie Sheehan.
