Philip Frank Looft, age 92 of Mankato, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 at Hillcrest Health Care Center.
A celebration of lives for Philip and Dorothy Looft will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 20, 2014 at Grace Baptist Church, 600 Lind St, Mankato, with Rev. John Michel and Rev. Gus Gonnerman, officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 " 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the Mankato Mortuary, 1001 North Riverfront Drive, Mankato. Burial will be in Harrison Township, IA.
Philip Frank Looft was born April 29, 1922 in Kossuth County, IA to Frank and Henrietta (Gardner) Looft. He graduated from Seneca High School, where he played basketball and baseball. Phil turn down the opportunity to play AAA baseball when he married the love of his life, Dorothy Mae Sanders on July 24, 1943. It was so hot that day that the jello melted at the reception! The young couple moved to the Fairmont, East Chain area where Phil and Dorothy began their family while Phil was a share farmer. Eventually the couple moved to Blue Earth and other towns in southern Minnesota before settling in Mankato in 1966. Phil worked at Miller Motors, North Star Concrete, and Thomas Oil before buying his own oil truck. Later he drove bus for the City of Mankato and MRCI. Phil also drove the bus for Grace Baptist Church for many years. Phil and Dorothy spent many years fishing and camping. He loved to winter in Texas and play any kind of game with his family and friends"he liked to win. Phil loved to play jokes on everybody, especially Dorothy!
Phil created many happy memories for his family who include his children, Cathrine Weber of Granada, Tom (Juanita) of Vernon Center, Mary Jo (Brad) Gohla of Mankato, Lorraine (Joe) Cozzie of Aurora, CO, Karen (Roger) Lindenfelser of Big Lake, Philip "Frank" (Nancy) of Mankato, Steven (special friend, Deb) of Marion, SD and Peggy Wilmes of North Mankato; 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Phil was welcomed into heaven by his beloved Dorothy, who passed away on April 21, 2014; his parents; son, Chucky; sisters and brother-in-laws, Florence (Albert) Johnson, Lois (Bob) Sanders, Jeanne (John) Hallstrom, Marvin Sanders, Raymond Sanders, and Bob Sanders; and sister-in-law, Ruth (Harold) Decker.
