Vera I. Phillips, age 93 of Mankato, died Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Oaklawn Health Care Center.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 10, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Wayne Eichstadt officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. at the church on Monday. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Vera Irene was born January 3, 1918 to Frank B. and Ida (Oehler) Menton in rural Eagle Lake, Blue Earth County. On October 27, 1937, Vera was united in marriage to Harold F. Phillips in St. Clair. They were blessed with two children. Vera was a nurses' aide in her early years, but was mostly committed to their dairy farm. She was a talented musician who played the saxophone and the organ by ear. Vera was in the Menton Family Band and played for numerous occasions. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, ceramics and oil painting. Vera was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Vera is survived by her son, Blaine (Renee) Phillips; five grandchildren: Bradley Phillips, Troy Phillips, Joleen Phillips, Kimberly (Tim) Halldin, and Craig Hilgers; four great-grandchildren: Parker Halldin, Breonna Phillips, Cody Phillips, and Noah Phillips; two sisters: Arline Phillips and Eva Pestka; sister-in-law: Beverly Menton; sister-in-law, Genevieve Lynch; brother-in-law, Lester Phillips and many nieces and nephews.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2007; daughter, Sharon Erickson in 2009; an infant granddaughter, Heather Phillips; one sister, Ethel O'Connor, and three brothers: Stanley, Glen, and Wayne Menton.
