Frank Joseph Pongratz Jr., age 57, formerly of Mankato, died Monday, September 12, 2011 in Queensbury, NY.
Funeral Service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 18 from 2-5 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary with a rosary and prayer service at 3:30 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato.
Frank was born February 18, 1954 in Mankato to Frank J. Sr and Mary Ann (Embacher) Pongratz. He attended SS. Peter and Paul Grade School and graduated from Mankato High School in 1972. He entered the U.S. Army in November 1972 and served several tours in Germany and then Desert Storm in Iran in 1990 and 1991. He retired in 1992 with the rank of Sergeant 1st Class. He worked as a mechanic on heavy equipment in the army.
After his time in the service Frank worked as a mechanic in several dealerships in and around Kingsbury and Queensbury, New York. He was employed by Garvey Kia Dealership for 11 years, where he died September 12.
Frank enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, bowling, and bronco riding while in the service.
Frank is survived by five children, Samantha Pongratz and her children, Danial and Marshall, Frank Pongratz III, Thomas Pongratz, Marissa Pongratz, and Connie Pongratz; mother, Mary Ann Pongratz; four brothers, Andrew (Terri) Pongratz, Thomas (Debb) Pongratz, Robert (Marilyn) Pongratz, Paul (Sue) Pongratz; six sisters, Patricia (Leonard) Woodcock, Lorraine (Koke) Little, Mary (Harold) Fischer, Ann (Steve) Garcia, JoAnn (Nic) Matejcek, Frances (Phil) Fumo; aunts and uncles, Maxine (Spike) Griffin, Carl (Linda) Embacher, Richard (Irene) Embacher, Jan Embacher; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many cousins.
Frank was preceded in death by his father, Frank Sr. in 1981; grandparents, Andrew and Marie Pongratz and their children; grandparents, Max and Mary Embacher; uncles, Vincent and William Embacher.
