Virginia Loraine Goetzke, age 83 of Mankato, died on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at Laurels Peak in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Mankato with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Monday at North Mankato Mortuary " Northview, 2060 Commerce Dr., North Mankato.
Virginia was born on July 25, 1928 in Madison, WI. She was the third of four daughters born to Jesse and Margaret (Hansen) Loberg. She grew up in Nelsonville, WI and was confirmed February 14, 1943 at Our Savior's Lutheran of Benson Corners. Virginia graduated from Amherst High School in 1946 and received her AA degree from Bethany Lutheran College in 1948. She went on to graduate in Business Education from the University of Wisconsin " Whitewater in 1950. She married Robert Goetzke in 1951 and began their 60 year marriage in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
Bob and Ginny's marriage was blessed with five children and Ginny was selflessly dedicated to their cultural and academic education. Above all concerns was that her family was brought up in the knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Savior in the Christian faith.
Ginny taught business education classes at the technical college and high schools in Wisconsin Rapids for many years. Ginny and Bob enjoyed their time spent at their lake home near Bloomer, WI and upon retirement, spent half the year "at the lake". Avid travelers, Bob and Ginny loved the mountains of Colorado and took the family on many camping vacations across the United States. They were blessed with many travel opportunities; especially memorable were trips to Germany and Norway, highlighting their heritages. Ginny was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church (WELS) in Wisconsin Rapids and later at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Mankato. She also was a member of the Sons of Norway.
In recent years, Ginny loved her flower gardens, bird watching, sudoku, and crossword puzzles. She loved spending time with her friends and family and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful cheerleader and connoisseur at countless family events.
Ginny is survived by her husband, Bob; children, Bob (Emily Orvick) Goetzke Jr., Kathy (Lon) Knudson, Sherri (Bill) Bukowski, Gary (Judy Walker) Goetzke, and JoAnn (Tom) Helland; 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy and Marjorie; and one great grandchild, Alexa Knudson.
