Valdah E. Spence Meyer, age 99 of Madelia, formerly of Vernon Center, died Monday, December 8, 2003 at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia. Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2003, at Grace Methodist Church, Vernon Center, with Rev. Wanda Kothlow officiating. Interment is in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday at Lake Crystal Mortuary, and continues one hour before services at church on Friday.
Mrs. Meyer was born July 24, 1904, in Sterling Township, Blue Earth Co., to John and Ethel (Ackerman) Oachs. She was united in marriage to Harley Spence on August 23, 1922, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She later married Clinton Meyer on Feb. 19, 1962, in Cleveland, MN. Valdah was a homemaker and member of Grace United Methodist Church of Vernon Center. She enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, old time dancing, and her cat.
Mrs. Meyer is survived by one daughter and her husband, Shirley and Earl Reid of rural Vernon Center; two sons and their wives, Stanley and Grace Spence of rural Vernon Center, Robert and Judy Spence of Eugene, OR; 12 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; two nephews and one niece. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harley on May 5, 1956, and her second husband, Clinton on August 3, 1973; one grandson; one great grandson; and one brother.
