Wilma M. Bode, age 80, of Mankato, died Saturday, December 6, 2003, in the hospice unit of Immanuel"St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Gene Glade officiating. Entombment will be in Woodland Hills Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 4"7 p.m., Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to VINE or ISJ Hospice.
Wilma M. Bode was born February 27, 1923 to William F. and Elsie (Schmidt) Volberding in Grundy County, Iowa. She graduated from Dodge Center High School in 1941. Wilma moved with her children to the Mankato area and worked for various businesses including, Mocols Grocery Store, Immanuel Hospital, Mankato Lutheran Home, Wilson Trucking, Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Marigold Dairy and MRCI before retiring.
Wilma was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was a devoted community volunteer. Her interests included needlework, cooking, baking and spending time with family.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Kathryn Bode of Long Lake, MN; four sons, Louis Bode of Rochester, Robert Bode of Poulsbo, WA, Dennis Bode and wife, Nancy, of Green Castle, PA, Donovan Bode and wife, Nancy, of Superior, WI; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and some special people who claimed her as their second mom.
Preceded in death by her parents, infant granddaughter, and four brothers.
