John R. Hoerr, age 80 of Mankato, died Saturday morning, December 6, 2003 at Hillcrest Health Care Center.
Memorial services 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 11, 2003 at Mankato Mortuary with Chaplain Jim Dye officiating. Cremains will be placed in the mausoleum at Fort Howard Cemetery in Green Bay, Wisconsin. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
John was born February 6, 1923 in Mankato to Carl and Edith (Richards) Hoerr. He was a Mankato High School graduate and received his B.S. degree from Mankato State. He served in the US Navy during WWII. In 1947, he married Frances Jorgenson in Mankato. They later divorced. In 1973, he married Shirley Patterson Christensen in Green Bay, WI. John worked for MICO in Mankato and for W.R. Grace in Green Bay, WI. John returned to Mankato in 1995. He was a life member of the VFW 950 and had belonged to the First Church of Christ Scientist. He enjoyed reading about war history and playing golf.
Survivors include daughter, Kathy Thomas of Minneapolis; son, Thomas Hoerr of Mankato; two stepdaughters, Bonnie Christensen of Land-O-Lakes, WI, Lynne Britton and husband Bill of Connecticut; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Jane Mitchell of Beaverton, OR; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
