Debra K. Schmahl, age 41 of Mankato died Saturday evening, November 29, 2003, at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato.

Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mankato, with Rev. Keith Siverly officiating. Interment in St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, St. Clair. Visitation on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at church on Wednesday.

Debra was born September 2, 1962 in Marshall, MN to John and Marlys (Beskow) Brands. Debra graduated from Marshall High School in 1981. She attended Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, where she was on the girls basketball team. She graduated from Mankato State University with a degree in Business Management. She was united in marriage to Steven Schmahl on December 31, 1995 at St. Pauls Ev. Lutheran Church, North Mankato. She had been employed at Scheels Sporting Good and prior to that she had been assistant manager at Hobby Lobby. Debra had also done Day Care at her home for five years. She was a member of St. Marks Evangelical Lutheran Church. She enjoyed volley ball, fishing, crafts and building things.

She is survived by her husband, Steven Schmahl of North Mankato; two daughters, Kristen Renne of Mapleton, Ashley Renne of North Mankato; one son, David Schmahl of North Mankato; step-son, Eric Schmahl of Eagle Lake, step-daughter, Sonja Schmahl of North Mankato; one granddaughter, Selena Schmahl of Mankato; mother and her husband, Marlys and Keith Clipper of Verdi; two sisters, Jolene Westlake of Sioux Falls, SD, Becky Bensen and her husband, Mark of Redwood Falls; one brother, Kevin Brands and his wife, Monica of Plymouth; aunts, uncles nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father and maternal and paternal grandparents
