William Bill Brown, age 67 of rural Mankato, died unexpectedly Friday, October 31, 2003 at his home. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, with Rev. John Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Monday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Minnesota Elks Youth Camp.
Bill was born on September 13, 1936 in Jamestown, ND, to Fredrick D. and Josephine (Peashaw) Brown. He was a graduate of Jamestown High School. Bill received his Bachelor of Science Degree in industrial arts from NDSU-Fargo and his Masters Degree from UND-Grand Forks. He was united in marriage to Judith Ann Stoffel on July 5, 1957 in Jamestown, ND. Following their marriage, Bill was employed with Glyndon High School in the Physical Education Department. In 1964, Bill and Judith moved to Mankato, where he accepted an assistant professor position at Mankato State University. Judith passed away in 1981. Bill retired from MSU in 1998. Bill was a member of the Mankato Elks Lodge, where he was a former Exalted Ruler and District Representative. He was elected twice to the Elks Youth Camp Board, on which he was currently serving. Bill enjoyed cooking, carpentry and construction work, being with his grandchildren, and was a former member of the Riverblenders.
Bill is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Kim Brown and Tony Viserto of Harrison, NY, and Brenda and Todd Schull of Lakeville; four grandchildren, Tessa and Anna Viserto, Courtney and Nathan Schull; special friend, Dorothy Barrett of North Mankato; three sisters-in-law, Mirt Brown of Jamestown, ND, Nancy Stoffel of Burnsville, and Bonnie Young of Bloomington, IN; also nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judith; and one brother.
