Mankato resident, Leonard Gjerstad, 77 of Mankato, died Monday, October 13, 2003 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester,
Memorial Service 11:00 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato, with Rev. Donohue Sarff officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be one hour before services at church on Friday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Leonard was born September 10, 1926 in Bertha, MN to Hobart and Elizabeth (Mastrud) Gjerstad. He attended Clarissa School. A US Army Veteran, he served during the Korean Conflict with the Japanese Logistical Command stationed in Japan. He was employed as Plant Foreman with AMPI in New Ulm for several years. He married Roberta Wendorf on March 13, 1954 in Bertha, MN.
Mr. Gjerstad is survived by his wife; a son, Mark and his fianc, Tammy Thompson of Gibbon; a daughter, Heidi Weilage and her husband, Scott of North Mankato; six grandchildren; a brother, Russell Gjerstad and his wife, Delores of Long Prairie; a sister, Phyllis Hegle and her husband, Dick of Winona. He was preceded in death by one grandson.
