Waldo M. Segerstrom, age 92 of Mankato, died Friday, October, 10, 2003 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday at Evangelical Covenant Church in North Mankato with Rev. Robert Gilbert officiating. Burial will be Wednesday October 15, 2003 at Greenwood Cemetery in River Falls, WI. Visitation will be held from 4 " 7 p.m., Monday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to Evangelical Covenant Church.
Mr. Segerstrom was born July 9, 1911 to Nils and Hilda (Nelson) Segerstrom on their farm in rural River Falls, WI. Waldo went to the American Business College after he graduated from High School, but was asked to return home to care for his father. He was united in marriage to Marcella Standfest on February 10, 1945 in St. Paul, MN. He and his brother cared for their mother on the family farm until 1949, when Waldo and Marcella bought a farm in rural Mapleton. They farmed for two years after which they bought a dairy farm west of St. Peter where they farmed until 1978 at which time they moved to Mankato. He was a former member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in River Falls, and he and Marcella have been members of the Evangelical Covenant Church of North Mankato for many years. Waldo enjoyed gardening and especially caring for roses.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella of Mankato; one daughter, Patricia Panning and husband, Craig of Richfield, MN; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by infant son, Malcolm Segerstrom; eight brothers and sisters, Gerda, Hulda, Clifford, Anna, Arthur, Rangnar, Gladys, and Russell.
