Elwin E. Al Simmons, age 78 of Mankato, died Sunday, October 5, 2003 at Immanuel"St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral services 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. John Petersen officiating. Burial in Minneopa Cemetery. Visitation 5"8 p.m. Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at the church on Thursday. Memorials are preferred to the donors choice of charities.
Elwin Edward Simmons was born April 29, 1925 to Rollo and Helen (Berndt) Simmons in rural Granada, MN. He attended Granada High School. He worked 20 years as a meat cutter and butcher in supermarkets in Lewisville, Fairmont, and Tracy, MN. In 1967, he graduated from Canby Area Vocational"Technical Institute with an agri-chemical/fertilizer degree. Before his retirement in 1987, he worked 20 years at Elco Products in Lake Crystal. He was united in marriage to Audrey Gustafson at Granada Congregational Church on October 15, 1950. Elwin had been a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church since 1964. Elwin enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, wintering in Arizona, woodworking, old time music, square dancing, clock repairing, and card playing.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey of Mankato; two daughters, Penelope Simmons of Madison Lake, Karen Walrath of Waco, TX; one brother, Elrid Simmons and wife, Dolores of Manawa, WI; two step-sisters, Koleen Rosenberg and husband, Larry of Bloomington, MN, Shirley Elg and husband, Jim of Mankato; nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Tux True; brother, Arvid; and sister, Ilea.
