Rosella (Jones) Cornish, age 86, of North Mankato and formerly of rural Vernon Center, died Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living, North Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church, Vernon Center, with Rev. Debbie King Quale, officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Friday, at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Saturday. .
Rosella was born June 27, 1923 to Leslie and Gaynor (Jones) Jones in Judson Township, Blue Earth County. Rosella attended grade school at "4-Corners" and graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1940. After high school, she attended Mankato Beauty School, graduating in 1941.
On August 12, 1944, she was united in marriage to Robert Cornish at her parents' home in Mankato. They made their home in rural Vernon Center for over 60 years. Robert and Rosella loved to travel and wintered in Naples, Fla. for many years.
Rosella was a member of Salem Presbyterian Church, rural Lake Crystal until her marriage. She then became a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Vernon Center, where she was involved in the United Methodist Women's Group. Rosella had many interests including a love of music. She sang in the church choir and played both the piano and organ. She was also well known for her beautiful needlework, including counted cross stitch and hardanger.
Rosella is survived by a son, Jim Cornish of Vernon Center; daughter, Lois Henderson and her fianc", Al Sisto of Orinda, CA; four grandchildren, Christy Cornish and her partner, Ralph Ingrassia; Robert Cornish and his wife, Christine; Michael Henderson; Matthew Henderson; one great-grandson, James Cornish-Ingrassia; sister, Mary Jane Rosenberg, of Lake Crystal; sisters-in-law, Betty Jones and Ruth Fredericksen, both of Lake Crystal; brother-in-law, Gordon and Jana Cornish of Vernon Center; and many nieces and nephews.
Rosella was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 2006; a brother, Buell; and a sister, Eleanor.
