M. Grayce Kortuem, 93, of Madison Lake, died Sunday July 5th, 2009, at Grandview Good Samaritan Health Center.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Marysburg with Rev. Edwin Savundra and Rev. Syl Brown officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before services at the church. Burial will be at Marysburg Cemetery.

Grayce was born at home in Le Sueur County on June 17, 1916 to Lawrence and Frances (Culp) Gegan.

Grayce was a long time educator in the Country school system and received her teaching certificate at Mankato Normal School. She later graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mankato State College in special education. She taught country school in Marysburg, Sugar Grove, New Auburn and Kilkenny.

She married Francis X. Kortuem on June 9, 1943 and they made their home on the family farm near Marysburg, just North of Madison Lake, Minnesota. She loved to quilt, crochet and play cards.

Grayce and Francis often opened their home to special needs foster children and those less fortunate in the community.

Grayce was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and is survived by seven sons, Daniel and Mary, Michael and Linda, Lawrence and Patricia, Francis and Cheryl, Stephen and Jo Ann, Mark and Nancy, Philip and Ann, one daughter, Marie and Jeff Stifter, twenty five grandchildren and thirty two great grand children, sister Elizabeth (Betty) Zins, sister in law Margaret Malterer, and many nieces and nephews.

Grayce was preceded in death by her husband, Francis, her parents, one brother, one grandchild, Shawn, and great grand children, Kole and Tyler.
