Robert (Bob) E. Weller, age 92, of Lanesboro and formerly of Mankato died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield where he had been a resident for five weeks.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato with Rev. Samuel Leonard IVE officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be one hour before service at church on Tuesday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to ISJ Hospice in memory of Irene Weller.
Robert was born January 13, 1917 on the family farm in Rapidan, MN. He married Irene C. Tillman on June 30, 1940. He joined the US Army in July 1943 and was stationed at Fort Worden in Port Townsend, WA as an Army Sergeant. He was employed by the State of Minnesota in the fisheries department for 34 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, Twins and Viking fan. He also enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of American Legion Post #11, the Moose Lodge #1414, National Rifle Assoc. and Ducks Unlimited. He received the Isaac Walton League conservation award and was very proud to have started the firearm safety program for the State of Minnesota that is still in use today.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Jo Wagner of Lanesboro; three grandchildren, Kris (Keith) Bradt of Chatfield, Robert (Ellen) Wagner and Jerod (Deneen) Wagner, of Lanesboro; eight great-grandchildren, Kyle, Karter, Katelin, of Chatfield, Amanda, Katrina, Kelsey, Nicholas and Madysen of Lanesboro; sister Betty Peterson of Sequim, WA.
He was preceded in death by dearly beloved wife of 51 years, Irene.
