Carolyn Ruth Jaarsma Lubbers, age 45, of Lake Crystal, and formerly of Pella, IA, died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato following a courageous four year battle with ovarian cancer.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 6, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Crystal, with Rev. Dawn Carder and Rev. Dave VanderLaan officiating. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella, IA. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to either a fund for Carolyn's children or to First Presbyterian Church. Lake Crystal Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Carolyn was born on August 19, 1963 in Pella, IA. She was the daughter of Ralph and Elaine (Nagel) Jaarsma. Carolyn was a 1982 graduate of Pella Community High School and received her B.A. Degree from Central College in Pella. She was united in marriage to Randy Lubbers on August 7, 1993 in Pella. She worked in retail sales at the Mode Huis in Pella, later purchasing the store. While in Pella, she was a member of First Reformed Church. She and her family moved to Lake Crystal in July of 2004, where she was a homemaker and became a member of First Presbyterian Church. Carolyn enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, cooking, and was very talented at cross-stitching. She helped with the church cookbooks in both Pella and Lake Crystal.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Rev. Randy Lubbers and their children, Elyse and Luke of Lake Crystal; step-son, John Lubbers and his fianc"e, Stephanie of Prescott, AZ; parents, Ralph and Elaine Jaarsma of Pella, IA; two sisters, Kristi (Dave) Balk and Lisa (Brian) Zylstra, all of Pella, IA; one niece, Alli Balk and three nephews, Aric Balk, Andrew and Matthew Zylstra, all of Pella, IA; aunts and uncles, Betty (John) Sikkink of Apple Valley, Bernace Johnson and Howard (Ethel) Jaarsma, all of Pella, IA; parents-in-law, Charles and Arlene Lubbers of Orange City, IA; grandmother-in-law, Sylvia Lubbers of Orange City, IA; also cousins, other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Celia Jaarsma and Floyd and Ruth Nagel.
