Virgina Jensen

Longtime Emmetsburg, Iowa resident, Alice Virginia Jensen, age 91, died Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato. She had moved to Mankato in January of 2005 to be near her daughter.

There will be a time of visitation from 3-5 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2009 at Mankato Mortuary, Mankato, Minnesota. Visitation will also be held from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Martin - Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa. The funeral will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at Martin-Mattice Funeral Home with burial following in Evergreen Cemetery all in Iowa. Memorials are preferred to the Bell Choir at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato.

Alice Virginia was born to Fred and Winifred (Burrington) Wenger on April 9, 1918 in Emmetsburg, IA and lived her entire life in the area. Virginia graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1937. On June 28, 1943, she married Delmar Jensen in Emmetsburg, IA. They traveled together to New Orleans, while Delmar served his country during World War II and later returned to Emmetsburg and farmed south of town. Virginia was a teacher for the Emmetsburg and Nevada Township Schools, was a childcare provider, and worked at Iowa Lakes Community College from 1972-1982, but most importantly she was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Besides being a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Ruth Circle in Iowa, she was also a member of the Pepper Steppers Square Dance Club. She and Delmar enjoyed square dancing and attending the National Square Dancers Conventions. Virginia continued to dance until she was 85 years of age. For many years, Delmar and Virginia spent the winters in Harlingen, Texas. While living in Emmetsburg, Virginia volunteered much of her time at the Lakeside Lutheran Home and was presented the Presidents Volunteer Service award in 2004.

Mrs. Jensen is lovingly survived by her daughter, Mardell Jensen and her fianc", Curtiz DuBois of Eagle Lake; daughter-in-law, Alice Jensen of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Sarah Brennan Jensen of Des Moines, IA, Andrea and her husband, Mike Aylsworth of Des Moines, IA, Jackie Jensen of Austin, TX, and D.J. Jensen and his fianc", Wende Nicholson of Des Moines, IA; three great-grandchildren, Cody, Maggie, and Olivia. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Delmar Chris Jensen in 1995; and son, Delmar Dean Jensen in 1988.
