Life-long Mankato resident, Gertrude Emma Marzinske, age 89, died peacefully with her family at her side on Monday, May 18, 2009 at Autumn Grace Senior Services.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 21, 2009 at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Clair. Burial will be in St. John's Ev. Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Gertrude was born on December 1, 1919 in Mankato. She was the daughter of George and Gertrude (Weingartz) Wussow. Gertrude attended SS. Peter and Paul's School in Mankato. She was united in marriage to Clifford W. Marzinske on September 14, 1938 in Mankato. Gertrude was a homemaker for her family and assisted Clifford with their farm. In 1992, she moved to Shalow Apartments in St. Clair. She moved to Pathstone Living in Mankato earlier this year after falling and breaking her hip, and transferred to Autumn Grace in March. Gertrude was very active in St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Clair, where she participated in the Ladies Aide and was a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the "500" Senior Citizens Club in St. Clair, "You Need A Rest" Club, and other clubs throughout her life. Gertrude loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and also going on trips with her family and friend, Bonnie.
Gertude is survived by her daughter, Donna (Louis) Goettl of Eagle Lake; grandchildren, Jeff Goettl of Mankato, Kim (Kip) Bruender of Eagle Lake, Connie (Jeff) McCollum of Mankato, and Jackie (Karl) Keltgen of Mankato; great-grandchildren, Coty, Tyler, and Brooke Bruender, Joshua and Kristen McCollum, and Casey Keltgen; special friend, Bonnie Sonday; special niece, Judy (Craig) Tesch and their son, Michael; sisters, Anna Bluhm of Good Thunder and Agnes (Donald) Lenertz of Mankato; sister-in-law, Alma Marzinske of Mankato; also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford; brother, George (Marjorie) Wussow; sisters, Margaret (Edward) Lange and Marie (Russell) Juliar; brothers-in-law, Lester Bluhm and Merlin, Lawrence, and Herbert (Ruth) Marzinske; nephews, Kevin and Curtis Lenertz.
