Jim Murray, age 84, of Mankato, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 9 surrounded by his loving family.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2013 at St. John's Catholic Church, Mankato with a visitation one hour prior to services. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m., Friday, January 11, 2013 at NORTHVIEW - North Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Schola Foundation, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or School Sisters of Notre Dame, Mankato.
Jim was born April 16, 1928 in LeCenter, MN. He graduated from Loyola High School, Mankato. He served in the U.S. Army in the Southwest Pacific and then attended Mankato State Teachers College. He married Bonnie Doyle on January 16, 1951.
Jim's businesses included Mankato Graphic Arts (MGA), Home Magazine, Save Mor Jewelry, Coins and Collectables, and various other business endeavors.
Jim was involved in many organizations. He served as Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, president of the Serra Club, was a member of the Loyola school board, held many positions at St. John's Catholic Church, and started the Ignatius Loyola Fund for the Mankato Catholic Schools.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Doyle) and their nine children, Kathleen (Terry) Smith of Duluth, Tom (Ann) of North Mankato, Dan of San Diego, CA, Nancy (Scott) Deslauriers of North Mankato, Margaret (Bill)Joas of Edina, Teresa (Mark) Wilmes of Owensboro, KY, Angie (Greg) Steininger of Eagan, Sue (Brian) Gengler of Edina, Julie (Paul) Abdo of Edina, 24 grandchildren and four great-grand children.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Alma (Knish) Murray, his sister and brother-in-law, Ina Mae and Winton Anderson, brother-in-law, Raymond Doyle; and nephew, Joseph Anderson.
