Steven Daryl Johnson, age 63 of Mankato died Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Methodist Hospital in Rochester with family by his side.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Dr. Scott E. Olson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Thursday. Burial will be in Winthrop Cemetery, Winthrop, MN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Steve was born September 13, 1949, to Daryl and Alma (Krosting) Johnson in New Ulm. He graduated from Winthrop High School in May of 1967. Steve attended Mankato Area Vocational " Technical School for Civil Technology. Steve served in the U.S. Army from 1969-71 in Germany and was in the 3rd Battalion, 37th Artillery. Steve worked for the City of Mankato as a Traffic Engineer for 34 years of service, retiring at age 54. Steve was united in marriage to Nancy Westberg on March 22, 1986, in Las Vegas, NV. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post #311 of Elysian, and the Elks Club of Mankato. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending winters in Fort Myers Beach, Florida with friends and family. He had a passion for cars and cruising in his red convertible Corvette.
Steve is survived by his wife, Nancy of 26 years; son, Matt Johnson of Mankato; step-son, Chris Hodapp (Katie Olsen) of Farmington, MN; brother, Larry Johnson of Mankato; sister, Barb Johnson of Winthrop; nieces, nephews, extended family, and many friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
