Nellie Jones, age 91, of Lake Crystal passed away Monday June 20, 2011 at the Lakeview Medical Center in Rice Lake, WI.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 24, 2011 at the Lake Crystal Mortuary in Lake Crystal, MN, with interment in the Minneopa Cemetery, rural Mankato, MN. Visitation will be held before the service from 12 - 2 PM Friday, June 24, 2011 at the mortuary.

Nellie was born June 5, 1920 in Judson Township, Blue Earth, MN. She was the 7th of 9 children born to Dutch immigrants, George and Wilhelmina VanderLouw, who emigrated from Holland in 1914. On December 29, 1949 she was married to Floyd Jones. Together they had 5 daughters and lived on their farm in Lake Crystal, MN. After Floyd's death to Leukemia in 1968, Nellie raised her girls and lived on the family farm alone until April 2010 when she resided with her granddaughter, Nellie Scheurer, and her family in Rice Lake, WI. Over the last year she made many friends with her hospice volunteers "her girls" who always commented on her sweet demeanor, caring eyes and the fact that she never had a wrinkle. She especially enjoyed her morning coffee and cookies with her dear friend and caregiver, Kathryn Damaske. Nellie had a very witty sense of humor and was very kind. She made the best chicken & dumplings and fresh baked bread, and she liked to garden and read. Nellie was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was devoted to her family and will be deeply missed.

Nellie is survived by 5 daughters, Wilma (David) Petersen and Effie Jones of Lake Crystal, MN, Betty Jones of Minneapolis, MN; Cathy (Tom) Hansen of Rice Lake, WI, and Melinda (Dennis) Dontje of North Mankato, MN; 9 grandchildren, Rebecca Petersen, Rachel (Joel) Kuhn, Nellie (Steve) Scheurer, Sarah Petersen, Tamara (Curt) Pacholke, Daniel Petersen, Jacob Dontje, Nicholas Jones and Brianna Dontje; 10 great-grandchildren, Katelind Jensen, Jordan Diel, Steven, Brooklyn, Tristan and Teagan Scheurer, Anna Kuhn, Ellie and Grant Pacholke, Matthew Kuhn; a sister Jenny (Jerry) Hendrycks of North Mankato, MN; a brother John VanderLouw of Gaylord, MN and 2 sisters-in-law, Vivian Strand of Rapidan, MN and Vivian VanderLouw of Lake Crystal, MN. Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd in 1968; siblings, Raymond, Casey, Henry, Gertrude, Reaka and George; and one great-grandson Cody in 1992.
