Lois was born on April 21, 1924 in Mankato to Harry and Lenore (Anderson) Owen. Lois's legacy of caring compassion touched the lives of countless people during her years of service as a nurse at the office of Dr. George Penn and at Immanuel Hospital, and also as a teacher, activist, neighbor, friend, sister, aunt, grandmother, wife to Don Lind and later to Robert Koppen, and mother to Rebecca (Stanley) Perl, Patricia (Leslie) Stanwood, Donn (Laurie Wetter) Lind, Kristin Lind (Mark) Matthews, Kathy (Patrick) Koppen-Burt.
Lois composed the following and requested it be offered as her obituary: "What a ride it has been and what countless adventures I have been privileged to experience. No boring history to relay, just gratitude for the privileges I have had in this great, sometimes bumpy, but always rewarding life. Who could ask for more? I had the privilege of acquiring another family with my second marriage: JoAnne Gustafson, Dick (Ruth) Koppen, and Jim (Margaret) Koppen. I always wanted eight children and this addition made it a prize package. The frosting on the cake were 17 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren."
She has already lost many family and friends along the way, but those who remain are feeling the loss of a great friend and ray of sunshine who always found a way to make someone's day a little brighter. This is what mattered most to her, what she consistently demonstrated to her children and grandchildren.
