A lifelong resident of Mankato, Barbara was born on December 29, 1912 to John and Caroline Kuebler. In the 1920s, she and her sister, Muriel Berndt, studied violin and dance for several years in New York City. Known as the Kaye Sisters, they toured the US and Canada with the Jarvis Revue, a professional vaudeville company based in New York City and appeared in several movie "shorts" by Pathe Films of New Jersey. After returning to Mankato, Barbara, graduated from Mankato High School, and she, her sister, and her mother opened the Kuebler School of Dancing.

On August 8, 1934, she married Earl A. "Bud" Hofmaster in Mankato. She continued teaching dance and was a dedicated volunteer in many community and civic groups. She was an active member of the First Christian Church, a 64-year member of the DAR, served as an election judge, and volunteered with the Red Cross blood drive. She was a talented knitter, seamstress, and baker, and enjoyed many other similar activities. She always looked forward to summers spent at the family's Lake Washington cottage. Most recently, she lived at Pathstone Crossing and Pathstone Way, and the family is grateful for the excellent care and consideration she received there.

Barbara is survived by daughter, Gail Nelson (Kyler), son Gary Hofmaster (Ruth); grandchildren Kyle (Dawn) and Erik (Melissa) Nelson, Bryn Yahn (Jonathan), Ingrid Hofmaster, and Garret Hofmaster; and great-grandchildren Collin & Allyson Yahn; Claire, Lilian, & Gwendolyn Nelson; and Madeline, Callie, Abigail, & Samuel Nelson.
