Phyllis Irene Childs, age 84 of Mankato, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at Mayo Health System " Mankato.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011 at Crossview Covenant Church, North Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at North Mankato Mortuary - NORTHVIEW, 2060 Commerce Drive, and continues one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato.

Phyllis was born July 7, 1926 to Eugene and Vivian (Durland) Faust in St. Peter. She graduated from St. Peter High School in 1944 and attended Mankato Commercial College. Phyllis was united in marriage July 25, 1948 to LaVerne Childs in Mankato. She was a homemaker for her family. Phyllis was a member of Crossview Covenant Church and M.C.C.L. She enjoyed sewing, child care, crossword puzzles, gardening, being outdoors, being with family and was an avid Twins and Vikings fan. Phyllis was a woman of great faith and used that faith as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years.

Phyllis is survived by her son, William "Bill" Childs of Mankato; daughter, Kathy (Fran) Gleason of Nicollet; six grandchildren, Natasha (Dustin) Fraker, Amanda (Tom) Robinson, Kevin Childs, Shawn (Randy) Nerem, Tony (Beth) Gleason, and Erin (Patrick) Nordstrom; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Fuller of St. Peter, Delane (Dick) Renfroe of Mankato, Carole (Orv) Olson of Michigan, and Audrey (Elmer) Olsen of Garden City; also many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LaVerne in 1990; sister, Adella (Duane) Fuller; brother, Clarence Faust; and also an infant sister.
