Malcolm Gene Johnson, age 80, of Mankato, died Saturday, June 4, 2011 in Belgrade Township.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Mankato Mortuary, with Rev. Ted Hottinger S.J. officiating. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Memorials may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
Malcolm was born on September 3, 1930 in rural Balaton, Lyon County, MN. He was the son of Eric and Bertha (Rasmussen) Johnson. Malcolm was a graduate of Balaton High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955 in California. Malcolm was united in marriage to Romona Swenhaugen on May 18, 1953 in Tracy. He owned and operated a gas station in Good Thunder until 1963. Malcolm was then employed with MNDOT for over 26 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Mankato. Malcolm enjoyed fishing, traveling, woodcrafts, attending flea markets, and snowmobiling.
Malcolm is survived by his nephews and nieces, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Romona; and two brothers, Donald and Dale.
