Joseph Anthony Mocol, age 73, of Mankato, died Saturday, July 21, 2007 at Mankato Lutheran Home in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 26, 2007 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mankato with Rev. Richard Colletti, Rev. Michael Izen, and Rev. Francis Kunz officiating. Burial will be immediately following at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, with a 3:30 p.m., prayer service at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation to continue one hour before the service on Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John's Catholic Church or Shakopee Area Catholic Schools.
Joseph was born on November 20, 1933 in Mankato to Joseph and Ida (Izen) Mocol. He graduated from Mankato Loyola High School in 1951 and Mankato State University in 1955 where he received a BA in Business Management and Industrial Arts. On April 8, 1967, he was united in marriage to Mary Rita Schmeichel at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in Austin.
Joe was partners with his brother Herbert Mocol in Mocol Super Markets and Mocol Truck Lines Inc. Joe sold insurance for the National Catholic Society of Foresters and Degree of Honor. In 1997, Joe and his wife Mary decided to build apartments, which he was active in up until the time of his death. Joe drove bus part-time for Palmer Bus Service, which he loved because of the young people. Joe loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren going to Florida or Branson.
Joe was an active member of St. John's Catholic Church, making the wooden figurines given to the children of the parish at Christmas time. Joe was involved with his wife Mary in taking in over 65 foster children. Joe loved to work with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in making pinewood derby cars. Joe loved to work with wood and mechanical items. Besides St. John's Parish, Joe was active in the National Catholic Society of Foresters and Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include daughter, Mary Beth (Mocol) and husband, Abdallah Khwice of Mankato; son, Jon Mocol and wife, Kathleen Hofer-Mocol; grandchildren, Joseph Anthony, Madelynn, and soon to be Jacob Mocol all of Shakopee; sister-in-law, Gen Mocol of Mankato; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ida Mocol; wife, Mary Mocol; and brother, Herbert Mocol.
