Selma Anna Mabel Frye, age 90, of Mankato, died Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at the Mankato Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 7, 2007 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center, with Rev. John Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. on Friday at the Lake Crystal Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be given to Mankato Lutheran Home or to the donor's choice.
Selma was born July 14, 1916 in Vernon Center Township, Blue Earth County, MN. She was the daughter of Albert and Anna (Luckow) Hohenstein. Selma was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Vernon Center. She was a 1934 graduate of Lake Crystal High School. Selma was united in marriage to Edward L. Frye on November 26, 1936 in Vernon Center. She was a homemaker for her family. Selma and Eddie lived on a farm north west of Vernon Center until moving north west of Lake Crystal in 1944. They moved to Norcross in 1957 and to Truman in 1962. They retired in 1974 and moved to Fairmont. They later moved back to Truman in 1976 and spent winters in Largo, FL. She moved to Sibley Manor in Mankato in 2003. She was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal where she participated in the Ladies Aid and was a Sunday school teacher, St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Truman, and also the Norcross Study Club, homemaker groups and birthday clubs. Selma enjoyed music, reading, crossword puzzles, crafts, taking pictures, and being with family.
Selma is survived by her son, Kermit (Jan) Frye of Bloomington; two daughters, Karyl Frye of Hastings and Korinne (Grant) Gilbert of Sandy, UT; three grandchildren, James (Susan) Frye of Hudson, WI, Steven (Jennifer) Frye of Shakopee, and Kyle Gilbert of Sandy, UT; five great-grandchildren, Megan, Alexander, Justin, Benjamin, and Anastasia; sister-in-law, Jean Meixell of Princeton; also nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward in 1982; son, Curtis in 1942; granddaughter, Sharon in 1975; three brothers and four sisters.
