Donabel C. Linney
Donabel Christian Linney, age 82, of Mankato died Sunday, July 1, 2007 at Mankato House Health Care Center.
Services will be held Monday, July 16, 2007 with visitation at 2:00 p.m. and memorial service at 3:00 p.m. with reception following at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Mankato with Rev. Albert H. Thompson III officiating. Mankato Mortuary assisted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Donabel C. Linney Memorial, Minnesota State University, Mankato Foundation, Mankato, MN 56001.
Donabel Christian was born November 19, 1924, to Asa K. and Ethel (Tucker) Christian in Norman, Oklahoma. She graduated from the University High School in Norman and from the University of Oklahoma. She married R. Randall Linney and then taught English at O.U. from 1946 to 1948 and from 1960 to 1962. After earning an M.A. degree in English at the University of Oklahoma, she taught for three years at Fort Hays Kansas State College. In 1965 she became an instructor in English at Mankato State University where she taught for 19 years.
She was an inveterate reader, a lover of music, who sang in church choirs for years, an avid needle worker and theater-goer, a photographer, and a dedicated computer user. While living in Oklahoma she was president of the Oklahoma City CPA Wives Club and was a charter member of the Mercy Hospital Women's Auxiliary. For a number of years she served on the Mankato Symphony Board and also on the Community Advisory Board of WCAL, the radio station at St. Olaf College. Organizations of which she was a member were: Alpha Lambda Delta, Chi Delta Phi, Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Thursday Reading Club, St. John's Episcopal Church, and First Congregational United Church of Christ.
Donabel is survived by two sons, Steven Linney and wife, Noreen of Eden Prairie, and Keith Linney of Apple Valley; one sister, Barbara Ritter of Oklahoma City, OK; four nieces; several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
