Elizabeth N. Pierce, age 91 of Mankato, died Monday, June 25, 2007 at the Mankato Lutheran Home. Private services will be held at a later date.
Mrs. Pierce was born November 20, 1915 to Roy and Lois (Robison) Newsome in Indianola, Iowa. She grew up on a farm near Derby, Iowa and graduated from Derby High School in 1933. After attending Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she taught elementary school in several towns in Iowa including Le Roy, Arlington, Sioux Center, and Fort Dodge.
She married James Gray Pierce on June 12, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois. They lived in Rapid City, South Dakota, Kearney, Nebraska, and Des Moines, Iowa before moving to Atlantic, Iowa in 1952 where she taught music in the public schools. They moved to Manchester, Missouri in 1968, then to Memphis, Tennesse and Dundee, Illinois before retiring to Ankeny, Iowa in 1980. She came to Mankato in 1990, moving to North Mankato in 2000, and then back to Mankato in 2005. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Jane Finch of Burr Ridge, Illinois; son, James Pierce and his wife Rebecca of Mankato; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and a sister.
