Earl Theophilus Roberts, age 85, of Lake Crystal, died Friday evening June 22, 2007 at Luther Memorial Home, Madelia.



Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church, Lake Crystal with Rev. Randal Lubbers officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Madelia. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to an organization of the donor's choice. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.



Earl was born on the family farm in Butternut Valley Township, Blue Earth County on July 28, 1921 to David and Sarah (Evans) Roberts. He attended Judson Consolidated School through sophomore year and then came to Lake Crystal and graduated with the class of 1939. His father died in 1933, when Earl was 12 years old. On February 12, 1943 Earl was united in marriage to Mary J. McCarthy at her parent's home in rural Lake Crystal. He farmed on the home farm from 1939 until 1960, he then bought hogs for Armour and Company for 27 years, retiring in 1985. Earl was baptized at Jerusalem Presbyterian Church and also served as an Elder and Deacon. When Jerusalem closed he became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Crystal where he also served as Elder and Deacon.



Earl was a charter member of the Lake Crystal Barbershop Chorus, serving as president and secretary thru the years. He was on the board of the Judson Cemetery Association and served as secretary for 48 years. After retiring he worked part-time for Polar Fertilizer, Crystal Co-op, and for Lake Crystal Mortuary from 1989 to 2004. Earl enjoyed music and singing, morning coffee, and visiting with friends.



Earl is survived by his brother, William Lee Roberts and wife, Ann of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law, Charlotte Collins of Phoenix, AZ; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends whom he cherished as family.



Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Mary on February 10, 2007; father, David in 1933; mother, Sarah in 1967; sister, Dorothy Kelley in 1973; brother, Newton Roberts in 1944; sister, Helen Meredith in 1985.
