Kenneth Earl Nibbe, age 87, of Mankato died Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Hillcrest Health Care Center, Mankato.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2007 at Grace Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Joel Erickson officiating. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Visitation will be from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at church on Friday. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church, Grace Praise, or Donor's Choice. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth was born November 14, 1919 to Harry and Bessie (Schroeder) Nibbe in New Rockford, ND. He graduated from Humbird High School, Humbird, WI. On March 6, 1942, he entered the United States Army and served for three years, seven months, and 18 days in the 44th Infantry Division. Ken received the Bronze Star. He was united in marriage to Kathleen M. Jenkins on September 30, 1945 at Fort Smith, Arkansas. For twenty-four years, Ken and brother-in-law, Stan Jenkins, owned and operated a service station in Red Wing. Ken and his wife then moved to Mankato, where he was employed as a custodian for 14 years with District 77. Ken was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and a life member of VFW Post 1218 of Red Wing. Ken enjoyed his family and friends, volunteering, bowling and golfing.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Kathleen of Mankato; daughter, Meredith Fitch and husband, Phillip of St. Peter; son, Craig S. Nibbe and wife, Jane of Wayzata; four grandchildren, Heather Fitch, Heidi Drummer and husband, Andrew, C.J. Nibbe, Caroline Nibbe and fianc", Justin McCoy; two great-granddaughters, Elsie and Lyla Sieberg; four sisters, Marjorie Hart and Genevieve Gust both of Northfield, Delores Oligney of Black River Falls, WI, Dorothy Bryner of Silver Lake, WI; two brothers, Lendol Nibbe and wife, Velma of Madison, WI, Marvin Nibbe and wife, Francelle of Red Wing; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Al, Norm, and Daryl.
