Elmer Theodore "Hap" Nickels, age 85, of Mankato, died Friday, March 23, 2007 at the Mankato Lutheran Home.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 27, 2007 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Paul Lauer, officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Tuesday.

Elmer was born October 5, 1921 to Theodore and Lilliah Mae (Rose) Nickels in New Ulm. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Schulz on May 31, 1943 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mankato. Elmer served his country with the Army Air Corps during WWII from 1942-1945. He was employed by Hubbard Milling Company for over 40 years retiring in 1983. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, American Legion Post 11, and the 40 & 8, Drum and Bugle Corp. He enjoyed gardening, watching sports especially the Twins and Vikings, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Dorothy of North Mankato; ten children, Janet Carrier of California, Gary (Nancy) Nickels of Mankato, DeWayne (Karen) Nickels, Robert (Bev) Nickels all of North Mankato, Penny (Jim) Steever of Douglas, WY, Dean (Ann) Nickels of Mankato, Bev Nickels of Eagle Lake, Joleen Mutch of Bloomington, Laurie Hartman of North Mankato, Jim (Tracy) Nickels, of Lake Crystal; twenty seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ella Anton of Mankato, Viola Ferch of Waterville, Mary Distah of Albert Lea, Evelyn Kopachak of Mankato; many nieces and nephews. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Sharon.
