Gary C. Riese, age 72 of North Mankato, died Thursday, May 5, 2011 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.

Gary was born October 23, 1938 to Carl and Bernice (Blank) Riese in rural St. Clair. He graduated from St. Clair High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Anita Comstock on October 19, 1958 in Mankato and later the two divorced. Gary had many business ventures including: Midwest Electric, Thomas Oil, Kentucky Fried Chicken and owned and operated Park Lane Liquors and Sioux Valley Sports. He was employed by Mapleton Marine for many years. He served on two national boards; Minnesota Restaurant Association and Minnesota & National Liquor Association. Gary was an avid fan of NASCAR racing and in his earlier years raced stock cars himself. In his spare time, he enjoyed being at the lake with family and friends.

Gary is survived by three children, Penny (Paul) Weckman and their children Andrew and Michael of Memphis, TN; Jolene (Larry) Michels and their children Jessica, Brett and Madison of Sioux Falls, SD; Carl Riese of North Mankato; his aunt Mabel Tosch of Mankato; several nieces and nephews. And in the later years, the Sheila Miller family had a strong presence in his life.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and special friend Sheila Miller on January 6, 2009.

As requested by the deceased, there will be a private family burial at Calvary Cemetery, Mankato, Minnesota. Condolences and memories to share with the family can be mailed to them at PO Box 4188, Mankato, MN 56002.
