Kenneth Devney, age 89, of Mankato, died Thursday, April 21, 2011 after a brief stay at Laurel's Peak, Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial and Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., with a 4 p.m. prayer service Monday at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will continue one hour before service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato, followed by a luncheon at the church.
Kenneth was born May 14, 1921 to Charles Joseph and Ann Teresa (Touhey) Devney in Chippewa Falls, WI. He graduated from Farmington High School. He was united in marriage to Margaret Gideon on August 23, 1947 at St. Dominic Catholic Church, Northfield. He was a self employed businessman who owned and operated Devney's Office Machines and Printing in Mankato until his retirement in 1980. Kenneth was a member of St. John the Baptist. He and Margaret enjoyed traveling in their motor home, woodworking, cooking, socializing, coffee with his buddies, anything Irish, and especially spending time with his family.
Kenneth is survived by his seven children, Mary Pat (Gerard) Ring of Wabasha; Jim (Rosemary) Devney of Colorado Springs; Teresa (Mark) Scheidel of Mankato; Jane (Tom) Lacina of Jordan; Rita (Kevin) Vollbrecht of Wentzville, MO; Julie (Mark) Paskey of Fairmont; and Steven (LaVonne) Devney of Mapleton; eighteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard Devney of Kirkland, WA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gerald and Vivian Gideon of Madelia; many nieces and nephews.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, on July 1, 2001; two brothers; and an infant sister.
His 90th birthday will be celebrated in heaven with Margaret on May 14th.
