Vincent James Mongeau, age 90, of Spring Valley and formerly of North Mankato and Good Thunder, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 30, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Good Thunder, with Rev. Brian Sutton officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Good Thunder. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. on Friday at North Mankato Mortuary " NORTHVIEW, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery Fund, Good Thunder.
Vincent was born on June 28, 1920 in Marshall. He was the son of Napoleon and Beth (Eastman) Mongeau. Vince was a 1939 graduate of Elmore High School and attended St. Mary's College in Winona. He served in the U.S. Navy. Vince was united in marriage to Marjorie Sackett on April 19, 1941 in Stewartville. He owned and operated Mongeau Inc./Good Thunder Grain. Vince was a two term Mayor of Good Thunder and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and Toastmasters. He enjoyed carpentry, reading, crossword puzzles, playing cribbage and Scrabble.
Vince is survived by his two daughters, Joan (Lawrence) Albrecht of Ingleside, IL and Marcy (Robert) Capelle of Racine; son, Jim (Kathy) Mongeau of North Mankato; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rich Mongeau of Long Beach, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie in 2006; and two sisters, Maureen Bleess and Jean Mongeau.
