Marian Ann Smith, age 86 of North Mankato, died Tuesday April 12, 2011 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.

Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011 at Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.

Marian was born December 6, 1924 in Canby, MN to Frank Joseph and Ida Belle (Slama) Hemish. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1941 and worked as a dental assistant in the Twin Cities until her marriage to Everett C. Smith in November of 1952 at St. Louis Park. Marian lived in Japan, North Dakota, Florida, and Sacramento, CA while Everett was in the Air Force. She moved to Mankato in 2006 after Everett died in July of 2005. Marian did alterations and sewing in her home and also upholstered furniture, while living in California. She was an excellent seamstress doing cross-stitching, sewing and cooking. She was a member of the Exchange Garden Club. Marian was very sweet tempered, loving and caring.

Marian is survived by her siblings; Gordon (Doris) Hemish of Tracy, MN; Howard Hemish of Farmington; Franklin (Barbara) Hemish of Tracy; Ann Fechter of North Mankato; Shirley (Jim) Mlodzik of North Mankato; George Hemish of Mankato; Joyce Jeffery of Madison Lake; Sandra Whitmore of Cumming, GA; sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith of Tucson, AZ and many nieces and nephews.

Marian was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, JoLynn in 1965; husband, Everett in 2005; sister, Viola; and brother, Archie.
