Edith Elizabeth Benson, age 89, of Mankato, died on Monday, April 11, 2011 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 15 at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church, 325 Sherman St., North Mankato, with Rev. Bart Fletcher officiating. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at North Mankato Mortuary-NORTHVIEW, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Burial will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to V.I.N.E. Faith in Action, 1618 3rd Ave., Mankato.

Edith was born to Harvey and Emma (Berg) Fischer on June 13, 1921 in Olivia, MN. She was united in marriage to Eugene Edward Benson on April 3, 1942 in Mankato. They were married for 54 years. While she was raising a family, she worked part-time in a variety of different positions, the last one being at Mankato West High School in the nurse's office. Edith was an active member of the Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church where she served on committees and participated in United Methodist Women and Bible Study Groups.

Edith is survived by her children: Linda (Peter) Kenneth of Hartford, WI, Tereece (Timothy) Lloyd of Rosemont, MN, and Paul (Ellen) Benson of Mequon, WI; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sisters, Betty Grams of Mankato and Lois Ulm of Garrison, MN; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Edith was preceded in death by her husband and brother.
