Sylvester Clement "Sy" Woitas, age 79, of Mankato, died at home from the result of an asthma attack on Thursday, April 23, 2009.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in St. Clair with Rev. Robert Schneider officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Mankato Mortuary, with a 6:30 p.m. Rosary. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to an organization of the donor's choice.
Sy was born on November 23, 1929 in Minnesota Lake. He was the son of Peter and Crispina (Staloch) Woitas. Sy graduated high school in Minnesota Lake in 1947. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict. Sy was united in marriage to Clementine "Clemmy" Wenner on April 25, 1955 in Mankato. He was employed with National Poly Products for 24 years and with Carlson Craft for 15 years. Sy was a member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He enjoyed his family, farming and feeding the birds.
Sy is survived by his wife, Clemmy of Mankato; children, Catherine (Dennis) Seys of St. Clair, Irene Hanson of St. Cloud, Ken Woitas of Mankato, Linda (Randy) Cumming of Lake Crystal, and Craig (Liza Jo) Woitas of Huntley; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Norbert (Shirley) Woitas of Annandale and Clement Woitas of Minneapolis; also nieces and nephews.
Sy was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Humbert; sister-in-law, Darlene Bohnert; and son-in-law, David Davis.
