Madelyn Ruth Hammock, age 90 of Mankato, and formerly of Vernon Center, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2009 at Pathstone Living Community in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Vernon Center with Rev. Brian Sutton officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Catholic Cemetery, Vernon Center. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at Lake Crystal Mortuary with a 7:45 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials may be given to the MS Society or St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
Madelyn was born on February 20, 1919 in Vernon Center to Hobert and Wynnifred (Graham) Petrich. She was united in marriage to William W. Hammock, of Parma, Idaho on June 4, 1938. They resided in Parma for a brief time before returning to Minnesota where they ran the Chat and Chew Caf" in Truman of a few years. They returned to Vernon Center, where Madelyn lived until 2004. Madelyn was very active in St. Matthew's Catholic Church where she played the organ for over 50 years. She taught ceramic classes for many years and loved sewing, gardening and spending time with her family.
Madelyn is survived by two sons, Rick Jameson of Federal Way, WA, Scott (Laura) Jameson of North Mankato, one daughter, Judy Skoglund of Sun City, AZ; 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Cruz of Zion, IL; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill in 1992; daughter, Victoria Cantrell in 1974; parents; sister, Aletha Butson O'Connor; and son-in-law, Don Skoglund.
