Patrick M. Burnell, age 57, of Merrifield and formerly of Mankato, died Monday, April 13, 2009 at United Hospital, St. Paul, MN. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and children after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, April 17, 2009 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mankato with Rev. John Kunz officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Friday. Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18 at Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Caring Bridge website or the American Lung Cancer Association.
Patrick was born March 24, 1952 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He graduated from Loyola High School, Mankato in 1970. In 1974, Patrick graduated with a degree in Accounting and Business at Mankato State University. On October 5, 1974, Patrick was united in marriage to Delores E. Wallin at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was employed by Norwest which became Wells Fargo from 1974 until 2001, Dondelinger Motors in Brainerd from 2001 until 2002, then finished his career with First Integrity Bank which became First International Bank and Trust of North Dakota in Staples. Patrick was an officer of the Horseshoe Lake Association. He enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, motorcycles, NASCAR, fishing, sports, and a love of cars. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with family and friends on Horseshoe Lake.
Patrick is survived by his wife Delores of Merrifield; three children, Amy (Jamie) Hausker of Stacy, Michael (Krista) Burnell of Erie, CO, and Scott Burnell (Carlie LaBree) of New Hope; six grandchildren, Kaylie, Austin, Natalie, and Elizabeth Hausker and Eben Dylan and Tyler James Burnell, and one anticipated grandchild; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Nancy (Marlin) Schmidt, Robert (Adanelle) Wallin, Margaret Keim, Linda Wallin, Dwight (Connie) Wallin, and Duane (Teresa) Wallin; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Patrick was preceded in death by his parents, James and Alice Conway.
