Leslie A. Kopari (Kopari Arpad Laszlo) of Apple Valley died Tuesday March 31st at Country Neighbors Assisted Living in Mapleton, MN.
Born in Pecs, Hungary on February 13, 1931, he immigrated to Duluth in 1957 and lived there until 1986 before relocating to the Twin Cities.
He was a Hungarian freedom fighter in the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and fought against the communist government and Khrushchev's Soviet forces (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hungarian_Revolution_of_1956 ). He was forced to flee Hungary as a refugee with Leslie Jr. in late 1956. They lived in a refugee camp for 6 months before coming to America. Once in the U.S. he worked as a salesman the rest of his working life, including 20 years for Volkswagen.
Surviving are two sons, Leslie Jr. of Redwood City, CA and his son Armand, and Tony (Kari) of Mapleton, MN and children, Lorenzo, Gabriela and Marcella; a daughter, Heather Hanson (Jacob) of Bemidji and her children Kardelen and Sophia; two step-children, Steve Carlson and Cindy Wizner; his former wife Catherine of Duluth; his brother John (Joyce) of Thief River Falls, MN and children Paul, Nicole and Brenda; three siblings still in Hungary, brothers, Csizek Antal, Csizek Miklos and sister, Csizek Sutyi, and their children and grandchildren.
He became a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 70, and in his final days was greatly comforted by the fact that he would soon be in the presence of the Lord.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday April 18th at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Rosemount, 14400 Diamond Path W., Rosemount, MN 55068
