Steve J. Welp, age 58, of Kasota Township died, Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at his home in Kasota Township.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Church of St. Peter, with Fr. Phil Schotzko officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, March 29, 2009 at the Church of St. Peter with a 6:30 prayer service. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Steve was born June 2, 1950 to Charles F. and Frances A. (Lentsch) Welp in Estherville, IA. He graduated from Lakefield High School in 1968. On September 26, 1970, Steve was united in marriage to Carol Lundgren in Lakefield. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, softball, the Twins and Vikings, riding his Harley, getting together with friends and loved his grandchildren and traveling with family. He was a past president of the Mankato Rotary Club. Steve was in the insurance and financial services business since 1972. He worked for Prudential Financial Services for 11 years as a general agent and three years as District Manager for Southern Minnesota. In 1986 he started Welp Financial Services. He currently owned and was President of Welp Financial Services, Inc. with offices in Mankato, Bloomington and Lakefield Minnesota. Steve had Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) Degrees from the American College.
Steve is survived by his wife, Carol of Kasota Township; two sons, Jeff (Rebecca) Welp of Kasota Township, Dan (Darla) Welp of St. Peter; one daughter Kris (Josh) Bobholz of North Mankato; six grandchildren, Ashley, Sidney, Jacey, Max, Charlie, Devyn; three brothers, Mike, Allen, Larry; one sister, Susan.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
