Carlyle V. Peterson, age 87, of Mankato died, Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato with Rev. Arne Jessen officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Kiester. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Carlyle was born July 31, 1921 to Swan E. and Julia C. (Johnson) Peterson in Kiester, MN. He graduated from Kiester High School in 1939. On July 19, 1941, Carlyle was united in marriage to Ardis A. Hintz at Mansfield Lutheran Church in Mansfield. Carlyle served his country during WWII in the United States Navy from 1942-1945 and was aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Antietam. He was employed with the Minnesota Highway Department, Woodrich Construction, and the City of Mankato as Street Superintendant from 1969 until his retirement in 1985. Carlyle was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, VFW 950 where he was past post commander from 1974-1976, American Legion Post 11, and the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, and baseball. Carlyle was a pitcher for the Naval Air Station in Seattle during his years in the service.
Carlyle is survived by seven children, Douglas (Jane) Peterson of Owen, WI, Robert (Pat) Peterson of Rosemount, Susan (Richard) Scott of Mankato, Sarah (Larry) Anderson of Madison Lake, Kathleen (Bruce) Davison of Fairmont, Warren (Debra) Peterson of Mankato, Allen (Mary) Peterson of Eden Prairie; one daughter-in-law, Camille Peterson of Crystal; seventeen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Audrey (Robert) Dawson, Janit (John) Sapa, Janis Northwick all of Blue Earth; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Carlyle was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ardis on September 26, 1997; two sons, Richard and Steven; three brothers, Ralph, Kenneth, and Stacy; and three sisters, Donna, Vivian, and Marriam.
