Alice Elenor Poppe, age 85 of Good Thunder, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at Mankato House Health Care Center.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder with Rev. Rudolph H. Maurer Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Good Thunder. Visitation will be held from 4- 7 p.m., Monday at Mankato Mortuary and continue one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to St. John Lutheran Church.
Alice was born June 3, 1923 to August E. and Elenor W. (Olson) Sandstrom in Mankato. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1941 and attended one year of commercial college. She worked for J.C. Marlow Co. in Mankato. Alice was united in marriage to Venner G. Poppe on September 7, 1946 in Mankato. Together they farmed in the Good Thunder area.
Alice was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder, and the Good Thunder American Legion Auxiliary. She was a 4 " H leader for many years and was a league bowler. Alice enjoyed needle crafts, wine making, and gardening.
Alice is survived by her four daughters, Joyce (Donald) Friedrichs, of Good Thunder, Carolyn (Richard) Garman, of Good Thunder, Louise (Mike) Lund of Janesville, Lisa (Steve) Hoehn of Good Thunder; eleven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Venner in1999; brother, Eric; sister, Florence.
